Welcome to the weekend, everybody. And, we're sure glad this past week is behind us. While stocks technically made progress on a close-to-close basis, it just felt like every inch of that gain was a grind, you know? Hopefully things will either be much easier for the bulls in the coming week, or the bears will take over for a few days and really give us something of a mini-capitulation. I'm ok with either one of those outcomes. I'm just not ok with this slow, laboring effort that doesn't do anybody any real good.

Anyway, we finally got the long-awaited update on Q3's earnings result for the S&P 500. I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised how well the market's major stocks turned things around from last week's alarming early results. I still wouldn't classify them as "good", but sometimes, relative success is "good enough" to keep the buyers coming to the table.

One Thing All Traders Should Do, Yet Most Don't

Hey everybody, we hope you had a great Thursday. The bulls certainly did everything they could do to make sure it was a good day, though I think today's strength was 100% spurred by the announcement that the Obamacare deadline was extended by six weeks.

Then again, nothing causes bullishness like bullishness. Traders saw a rather vulnerable market ignore the risks of a pullback and take a step forward, which makes it a heck of a lot easier for other would-be buyers to jump on the bandwagon tomorrow. Who knows? Maybe this is the beginning of a rare-but-possible melt-up. It's sure not about value or the market's fundamentals though. (It hasn't been about either of those things in a while.)

Well, that was a little ugly, though in retrospect it wasn't all that surprising. What I'm talking about, of course, is Wednesday's decent-sized dip from the market. That being said, I'm not as worried about the depth of the pullback as I am about the possibility that it started a much bigger (and somewhat overdue) correction. Then again, the bulls were pushing back a little near the end of the day.

We'll poke and prod the market in a moment. First we need to take the detailed look at real estate data we promised you yesterday.

Good afternoon, folks. We hope your Tuesday was good one. It was certainly a busy one, with many of the delayed economic data reports finally starting to pour out. And yes, I'm primarily talking about today's jobs numbers.

As has been the case for a couple of years now, the proverbial "rest of the unemployment story" is more important than the unemployment-rate figure. Let's run through that information real quickly, just so you can get a feel for what's going on.

Yes, Standard & Poor's finally gave us the missing Q3 earnings information we've been impatiently waiting on. We'll work our way through it in a second. There's something far more important we've got to take care of first ... we have to update our look at the recent trade on Manitex International (MNTX). Let's just say I've never been so glad to be wrong.
