It occurred to me over the weekend - after I posted Friday's pick of Ladenburg Thalmann Financial Services (LTS) - that we really haven't explained the latest evolution of our site and newsletter. I meant to give you the crash course in Monday morning's edition, but I was too busy busting Steve Jobs' chops in that write-up to do it then. So, I'm just gonna' have to carve out a couple seconds from today's newsletter to make it happen. The SCN website is great. (I know - how modest of me!) But, if you really want the best of the best stuff like our newest stock picks and the apparently-controversial rant on Apple Inc. without Steve Jobs in charge, then you absolutely have to check us out each time you find our messages in your inbox. Of course, there's a flip side to that coin. While our e-mails may be the best-of-the-best new picks and commentary (and the most fun), our site has a ton of commentary and money-making trade updates that are posted every day too - they just can't all be squeezed into the daily publication we send out. Specifically, our new 'Featured Stock' section on the home page is always worth at least one daily visit after the close. Why? Because our "On the Ground" SmallCap Network affiliates and friends are always on the lookout for information that may be an excellent catalyst or prelude to a potential breakout. Example #1: We've been fans of VirnetX Holdings (VHC) - one of our Featured Stocks - for quite a while now, but we still know timing is everything. That's specifically why one of our regulars made a point of telling you at the site that a breakout move was brewing as of Thursday, when VHC moved above a major resistance line. It was trading at $21.10 then, versus $23.83 now... a 13% move in two days, and it's still going strong. Example #2: On Friday, another contributor saw a similar breakout brewing with another one of our featured stocks, Elephant Talk Holdings (ETAK). It crossed above a key resistance line of its own, and he pointed that out at $3.05. Now it's at $3.20 (up 5% in a day). In fact, at one point on Monday it was up 9% from Friday's entry recommendation. And like VirnetX, ETAK is also still going strong. In simplest terms, 'Featured Stocks' are our way of letting you know we have an indication a stock may start heating up!! We offer some pretty deep details on those names while the story's brewing. Newsletter stock picks are 'here and now' short-term trades that are ready to go just as soon as the e-mail hits your inbox, like LTS on Friday. And yes, Featured Stocks can and sometimes do become official newsletter-recommended picks. Almost needless to say, if you're not reading each and every newsletter, then you're throwing away some great trading opportunities. By the way, did you know YOU can also write articles and manage a public portfolio at www.smallcapnetwork.com? Become the rock-star trader and guru you always dreamed about being when you were growing up. (Hey, some kids knew they'd never be professional baseball players.) Anyway, since I'm in a giving mood and want to make sure everyone gets off to a great start with the new-and-improved SCN site and newsletter, here's a quick look at some of the most actionable commentary and news for our Featured Stocks and recommended trades. The market's been wondering how Lone Star Gold (LSTG) was actually going to pay for the digging and drilling effort at La Candelaria. Here's the answer. The stock seemed to like the news. Cincinnati Bell (CBB) is making a point of developing its data center business. This trade continues to be a very solid performer. (This isn't a Featured Stock, but it is one of our long-term newsletter picks. So, we're still keeping tabs on it.) Rite-Aid (RAD) has put together a new labor contract. Slowly but surely this retailer is putting itself back together, and the stock is indicating that investors are starting to believe. The strength and buying volume over the past five days may be a sign that now's the time to get in. Both breakouts mentioned about VirnetX Holdings and Elephant Talk Holdings are still in effect. Here's a look at the VHC chart, and here's the ETAK chart. You'll see exactly what we're talking about.
