Market Outlook Despite its early intentions, the market isn't going to gain enough ground on Friday to end the week in positive territory. It will be the first losing week in the last five, and only the second losing week in the last eight.  Still, all told, the S&P 500 has gained a solid 8.2% during those eight weeks, and has done so with relative ease..... perhaps too much ease, in fact. The lingering overbought risk that had been ignored for the better part of that two-month period started to rear its ugly head late in the week, and for the first time in a long time we see vulnerability.  What's most interesting - and bearish - about the undertow, however, is that it's not uniform - not all the indices are struggling to the same degree.  Take the Russell 2000 Index (of small caps) for instance. Wednesday's pullback carried it well under its 20-day moving average line, and on to new lows for the year. The NASDAQ Composite didn't quite match the Russell 2000's technical trouble, but its 20-day line is under attack for the first time in a couple of months.
