Those of you who have been around a while will know we've been working hard to build a stock trading community platform that's not only useful, but functional. We'll we've finally done it - and it was worth the wait. Now, with the power of publishing at your fingertips, the full power of small caps can be in your portfolio. While we hate to use a cliche phrase like "this will revolutionize the industry", that is what this platform will do.
We'll look at our publishing tools' debut in a little more detail below.
After that, we'll recap some of the highlights from this week's community commentary, and take a look at a few stock picks from users just like you.
It Was Worth the Wait
Most of the time this is where we'd make a market call, post a sector outlook, or offer an outright stock pick or two - all of which would be accompanied by an explanation. This week though, we've got something far more important to share.
After months of development, the SmallCap Network community's publishing tools are now ready for you to use; now you can become the published expert.
If you've not seen all the tools you've now got access to on the site, here's a quick explanation. Simply by registering as a community member, you can now...
Post a research report and opinion (upgrade, outlook, research, buy/sell) on any stock, sector, or even the broad market to be published on the site. Post an article on any investment-related topic (news, stocks, techniques, theory, etc.) Post a blog entry (feel free to rant - just keep it clean) Upload a file (charts, spreadsheets, documents) to share with others Maintain a stock-pick portfolio to share with others, and build your status as a guru Exciting? As cool as it will be to put the power of publishing in your hands, it's not nearly as cool as the way your thoughts and research will be displayed on the site.
Let's face it - despite them being the best opportunities out there in the investment word, there's a serious lack of intelligent opinions, research, and news coverage on small cap stocks. The new community publishing platform changes that. Every single U.S.-traded stock's ticker page will aggregate all the content and commentary you post about that company, so others can read and benefit from it as well.
The nearby example should help explain what we mean.
On Clearwire's ticker page, you'll see any recent purchase of CLWR on the top left, any research and analysis in the middle left column, and any articles about Clearwire right below the ticker data. (On the right hand side you can't see is where the blog posts for CLWR will appear.) Click here for the full-screen shot of this example page.
Do you see the power here, not just for amateur publishers, but also for small cap investors? Community members will be able to give and receive information and ideas for this segment of the market like they've never been able to before..... anywhere. And if you're a trading hero, the portfolio tool is your chance to prove it - and gather a following of fans as well.
Needless to say, were excited - not just for you or us, but for all investors.
To learn more about the tools and become a free community member, check out this 'introduction' page. To make the most out of the tools, here's the 'how to' page.
In any case, markets are closed on Monday for Memorial Day. Have a great (and safe) long weekend.
Stocks In Focus
New Picks
MetroPCS Communications Inc. (NYSE: PCS)
He's been talking about wireless stocks for months, and James Brumley put his money (ok, hypothetical money) where his mouth is this week by buying MetroPCS Communications Inc. (PCS) in his publicly-viewable stock portfolio. You can see the details on the pick here, complete with target and stop. However, the root reason for picking PCS can be found from comments he made back on the 25th.
Applied Energetics, Inc. (Nasdaq: AERG)
Dennis Askew is off to a great start with his Applied Energetics, Inc. (AERG) from Wednesday (up 8.7% so far). If the name rings a bell though, it's because it was one of his favorite stocks from a commentary he posted back on April 5th. This 'from potential to official pick' is something we expect to see more of as time goes on... sort of a way to explain how news and commentary can be actionable in some cases.
Other Picks - VHC, F
VirnetX Holding Corp (AMEX: VHC) and Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) were also inaugural picks this week - and both are up since then. No rationales were added with the picks, but you can still respond to the picks (or add a rationale of your own, by posting a comment at the bottom of each trade's data page.)
Analysis & Commentary
Three Buy on the Dips Possibilities: TRGL, TSYS, IPSU
What's Dennis Askew digging with Toreador Resources Corporation (NASDAQ:TRGL)? Anytime a company is willing to buy its own stock back, you should probably be will to do the same. Askew's got the low-down in the repurchase.
Why Boring is Beautiful (& Profitable) - Outlooks for NFP, AON, and BRO
Sometimes it can pay to think aggressively and shoot for the stars via the market's 'next' hot stock. Other times (like here and now, and James Brumley points out), the path to big gains is actually paved with boring, predictable, and even unknown stocks. How do National Financial Partners Corp. (NYSE:NFP), Brown & Brown, Inc. (NYSE:BRO), and Aon Corporation (NYSE:AON) fit into that picture? Here's your answer, but be forewarned..... you may strangely compelled to be a buyer after reading this commentary.
The Cheapest Oil Stock In China: Longwei Petroleum (OTCBB: LPIH)
Larry Isen shares some great data regarding Chinese oil stock Longwei Petroleum (LPIH) - data bytes you usually can't find with bulletin board stocks of foreign companies. Based on the current and projected numbers - which are plausible - Isen see LPIH shares being worth twice what they're worth now by 2011. Check out his analysis to see why..... some stunning growth numbers here.
