Abnormal Volume Triggers Breakout Alert on BERX

I hope you guys know by now our primary goal here at the SCN is to inform our Members of small cap breakouts before anyone else does. (If you didn't, then there ya' go.) Well, there's been some pretty interesting volume activity for one particular small cap in the oil and gas industry - which has been red hot lately - and it's just begging the bulls to step in.

See the nearby chart? That's Bering Exploration (BERX), and it's about the best-looking technical setup I've seen all year. Specifically, it's (1) got longer-term bullish momentum, (2) is just coming out of a short-term pullback, (3) is finding support at a couple of key moving averages, and, (4) is revving its engines again on higher volume.

It's the last clue - volume - that means the most for current or potential Bering Exploration investors right now.

Good Friday morning everyone. I hope everybody had a good week, but if not, I hope you have a better weekend. I was going to give you another stock pick today, but I figured three in the last week is enough to keep us busy for while, and there's something more pressing right now anyway... the overall market. Besides, we've got two more ideas coming Monday AND Tuesday. Be sure to check your inbox both days.

You already know stocks are getting rocked. Between Ireland's downgrade, Italy's austerity, the looming U.S. debt default, Bernanke's constant flip-flops on another stimulus measure, and the fact that the market sometimes remembers none of these things really matter in the end, investing for the long haul right now is about the same as spinning a roulette wheel (but ironically, with less of a payoff).

If you're willing to be a true short-term trader though - and if you know what to look for - I think you can navigate your way to some profits over the rest of July.

Has the Market Gone Coffee Crazy?

Far be for me to say what should or shouldn't get investors excited, but has the market gone coffee stock crazy? Seriously.

Don't get me wrong - I'm the king of obscure (maybe even bizarre) stocks, but I'm having a real hard time wrapping my head around this incredible rally. Coffee Holding Co. (Nasdaq: JVA), Caribou Coffee (Nasdaq: CBOU), Starbucks (Nasdaq: SBUX), Green Mountain Coffee Roaster (Nasdaq: GMCR), and all the rest have popped anywhere from 20% to 100% over the past three weeks, and I've got that nagging feeling this is all gonna' come unraveled a lot faster than it developed.

That's the nice way of saying I see a big correction coming, and soon.

Stocks Up For Week, But Don't Believe the Hype

Good Thursday Afternoon All,

Hope everyone isn't too distracted yet by the looming holiday weekend. Though the market being closed Monday gives us three straight non-trading days in a row, you guys and gals know how these holiday weekends work ... people mentally (and physically) check-out on Friday too, effectively making it a four-day weekend. And, it seems like more and more, even the 'day before the day before' - which is today - is the beginning of the downtime. Must be nice.

In Thursday's edition we posed the question, "Is it time to be a contrarian bull?" Some of you said yes (which was the direction we were slightly leaning), and some of you said no, but it seems like everyone at least understood why the question was worth asking at the time. Kudos to all of ya' for understanding how the market works in the real world, even if we all didn't agree.
